This mediaeval castle has been charmingly converted into an elegant hotel and a superb restaurant within attractive grounds and walled gardens hosting several cultural events during the warmer months.
Along the historic passage of Via Claudia Augusta, perched atop the verdant Tegazzo hill, Castel Pergine commands over the Valsugana valley.
Built on the grounds of an old Roman settlement, the fortress was restored to its present state in the XIII century and went under further extension in the XVI century when the Prince Bishop of Trento commissioned the wing known today as “Ala Clesiana”.
Particularly interesting are the Water Drop Prison, the Fireplace Hall- which inspired the local legend of the mysterious White Dame – the Throne Room and the St Andrew’s chapel, on the first floor. On the second level, five halls host regularly exhibitions together with the surrounding gardens.
The castle includes 20 guest rooms, three towers, also available for accommodation, and a restaurant (open from end of March to beginning of November) offering traditional dishes freshly revisited with both regional and Italian influence.
This fascinating fortress and its leafy gardens come to life in high season with many cultural events, such as theatre plays, concerts and contemporary art exhibitions.
